Spectral dye platform provider Phitonex Inc. acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific

Scientific instrument and service provider Thermo Fisher Scientific (MA, USA) has acquired technological solutions company Phitonex Inc. (NC, USA), developers of a spectral dye platform for high-resolution biology applications.

Termed ‘Phiton’, the platform offers an innovative tool for the analysis of single cells in high-resolution. Phiton acts as a structure that can maintain a higher number of fluorescent dyes. It enables the rapid creation of numerous dye labels, minimized cross-excitation, and reduced spectral spillover. This in turn increases the number of protein and cell populations that can be identified in a single cytometry experiment. The goal of Phiton is to speed up cell therapy, immuno-oncology and immunology research, and development.

Peter Silverster, senior vice president and president of life sciences solutions at Thermo Fisher Scientific, stated:

“Phitonex’s platform is a natural extension of Thermo Fisher’s existing tools for protein and cell analysis applications. Combining this new technology with our existing portfolio and expertise in this space will unlock the Phiton platform’s great potential and deliver unparalleled flow cytometry performance so our customers gain more valuable insights from a single cell and expedite discovery.”

Thermo Fisher provides scientific instrumentation, software, reagents and consumables, and services to healthcare and life sciences industries as well as laboratories in academic, government, and industry.
